Mzuzu One Stop (Chikwanekwane) Center Launched!!!!

Posted by sbowler on June 13, 2016

On 2nd June 2016, UNICEF in collaboration with Ministry of Health launched the Mzuzu One Stop (Chikwanekwane) Center at Mzuzu Hospital. The One Stop Center provides comprehensive services to victims of sexual violence comprising the medical staff, social welfare, Police and psycho-social counseling services. Fountain of Life provides the trauma counseling services at the center. The Center was built in 2014 and victims could access some of the services especially the medical component but could not access other services. Fountain of Life began providing counseling during the first quarter of this year (2016).

“Why should we tolerate violence in our society? We know the perpetrators of violence. Some are very close to the victims. It is everyone's duty to report cases of violence from the neighbors, chiefs and all members in any community.” Malawi Minister of Health Dr. Peter Kumpalume urged people at the official opening of the Mzuzu One Stop Centre. When a service is available, people will always access it. We are looking forward to more of these centers being built and launched all over Malawi so that more of these cases are reported and victims receive the necessary help. Empower children especially, to report defilement and rape.

Fountain of Life is also providing counseling services at the Zomba One Stop Center but it has not yet been launched. Lilongwe OSC is still under construction.
