Small Acts of Kindness Bring comfort

Posted by sbowler on July 23, 2014

Victims of horrific violence need to know that they are still valuable and that someone cares for them.  The comfort pack is a wonderful way to practically show them that is the case.  Each comfort pack will contain things such as:

  • Toothbrush and tooth paste
  • Soap
  • Lotions
  • Change of Clothes
  • A Chitenji (cloth wrap)
  • Underwear
  • Bedding materials
  • Food
  • Toy for Children
  • Washcloth & towel
  • Cell phone vouchers

These comfort packs will be distributed to the major hospitals in Malawi that have a One Stop Centre, some Victim Support Units with the Police and with organizations that offer places of refuge or are trying to stop sex trafficking.  There are many places where we can partner to offer this simple yet effective demonstration of support, care and acceptance.

The number of Comfort Packs we can distribute is totally dependent on your financial support.  The more funds that come in the more victims of sexual assault we can help.

The more comfort packs we can put together the more children - mostly girls - will know that they are valuable and that there is hope because someone cares about them.  Studies show that the immediate response or reaction a victim of extreme violence receives from someone determines how well the healing process will go.  Comfort packs will be a first line response that communicates care, support, acceptance, understanding, empathy which will all contribute to the best possible start to recovery from the rape.

The potential IMPACT of this campaign is simply enormous.
