Victims of sexual abuse need a safe space where they can heal on a long term basis and return to their communities. It is a place where they can receive effective counselling, interact with other survivors in support group therapy and more.

There is currently a huge gap in the understanding of the kind of counseling essential to assisting a victim of rape recover from the trauma of sexual assault. Tied to this gap is the virtual absence of trauma counselors in Malawi. 

To make matters even more dire the awareness of how to help a victim (and their families) of sexual assault is essentially non-existent. Training, Resource Materials, Educational Materials, Awareness campaigns are all needed that target volunteer Counselors, Police Officers, Medical Staff, Teachers, Community Leaders, Spiritual Leaders and other similar key people across Malawi.

There is need to map out all services in Malawi that help victims of sexual abuse in order to either fill the gaps in areas where there are no services or complement and partner with existing ones. This will help establish a rural presence with strategic partners.
